YOK Spotlight - More Words of the Year
Last week, we discussed how “brat,” “demure,” and “brain rot” had all been chosen as 2024 words of the year. In a poll, YOK readers were pretty widely split, but “brat” edged out with the win.
Then I saw The Economist do an article on all of their words of the year, a list with more geopolitical and business connotations. I thought I’d do a spotlight issue highlighting some of these more “serious” terms, with a fun one as a kicker. Here are your questions:
1. What two-word phrase refers to the skill of writing effective prompts for AI, and has becoming increasingly prevalent this year? Additionally, what four-letter word refers to the low-quality media produced by artificial intelligence?
2. What term refers to the Kremlin’s project to rewrite Wikipedia?
3. What Greek term, referring to “rule of the worst” or “rule by the unfit”, did The Economist declare their word of the year?
4. What 12-letter word was coined by the French to describe a political situation in which the president represents a different party than the one that has a majority in parliament?
5. What type of medieval cooking technique, in which a pot of food is kept continuously going by adding ingredients and liquids to it over decades, became something of a food trend amongst Gen Z on social media this year?
