Pop Culture Fridays!

It’s October, which means it’s spooky season, but it also means it’s the beginning of the long run up to Oscars awards season. If it feels like we were JUST talking about the Academy Awards, well … not every ceremony includes The Slap Heard Round the World. Below are some early contenders to keep your eye on … as well as some gay drama. Oh, and a music question too.

A quick correction: in yesterday’s newsletter, I said that Eliud Kipchoge’s marathon record time was 2:10:09. In fact, that was a typo. His record time is 2:01:09, so the man is nine minutes faster than you previously thought him to be.

In celebrity dating news, Trevor Noah, who is stepping away from his stint as the head of The Daily Show, is reportedly dating Dua Lipa. Now THAT is a power couple I can get behind. In the sports world, rumors have swirled that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are hiring divorce attorneys. Gisele has publicly expressed how unhappy she is with Brady’s decision to continue playing football after previously announcing retirement earlier this year.

Gisele did her first magazine covershoot in years and I’m actually dead.

Honestly, good for Gisele. I can’t believe she spent a decade suffering next to this man in the New England winter, and hope she gets to do what she wants now. Although without Gisele around (she reportedly kept Brady from visiting the Trump White House after the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2019), what shenanigans is Tommy boy going to get up to? Hopefully he won’t follow the path laid out by Leonardo DiCaprio.
